I use photoshop and then make sure the file is in jpeg format so i can successfully upload the image to youtube i just need to get more familiar to adobe photoshop

For the background image, are you using the new Layout or the old one?

The New Layout
For the new layout I recommend you save it as a PNG. Since the upload limit is 2MB now for the new one. It's much better quality.

The Old Layout
I would recommend you switch to the new layout, YouTube's phasing this out really soon, but you need to save as a JPEG since the old layout only supports images up to 1MB.
