Definitely read through your agreement before your finalise it into a contract.
My contract terms is 24 months (2 years) and it will renew automatically into another 2 years unless I give them notice in advance that I want to leave them.
Always read the fine print.

@ OP: some smaller networks offer 1 year contracts, you should look into those too.

If you don't know how long the contract is then you obviously haven't read the contract. READ IT! Seriously, sometimes they put things in there that you don't like. Don't sign anything without reading it.

If you haven't signed yet, ask for a 1 year contract. The terms are the same if you renew, so there's no reason to go for 2 years. If your channel grows a lot larger during the year, then negotiate new terms and sign again for 1 year with the same plan.
