Estimated minutes watched new payment system?

Hi, so 2 months ago I made around 50K views and got 30-40% more money than I'll get this month, and I already made 80K views in this one, did the estimated minutes watched system went in over the monetized views system?
And if so, how does it work?
Thanks,
Remus

If you're asking about audience retention, then yes, you do have to get it for a certain amount of time for it to count. Sorry, that's just the way it's working. YouTube is changing to crowd out the spammers and such, but it can hurt the small YouTubers as well.

Hmm OK, what % of the video must be watches? Let's say you make a 1 min video or a 20 min video...if the 1 min video is watched 10 secs it counts but the 20 min needs to be watched a lot more than 10 seconds?

Nope :p there's been so many variants of the situation going around that I`m waiting for an official announcement ;)
I heard that 20% of the video has to be watched for it to count. I maybe be wrong though. It's best to wait for an official announcement like you said :)

That would be stupid (20%) and i do not really would like to believe in that (20%, but not a certain time frame or a combination of those two) because most Youtubers, who have in mind earning money from videos too besides of having fun, will avoid to make longer videos, and this is not going to raise quality of the videos, when many will try to make videos as short as possible or split them in parts to be able to get credit more often.

Its stupid enough that short videos rank better because of "fully watched video affect" (i guess this is what is called good audience or view retention or something, not sure how its called). When i watch short videos (30 sec. - 1 min), at that moment when i realize that it was crappy video - is when i watched already whole video because its too short time for me to realize whats going on :) thats not fair and not clever way of ranking videos and this is not the way to fight with spammers in my opinion.

Like I said, it's just something I heard from others which is why I said I would be wrong haha. Maybe there will be different percentages depending on the length of the video or it will all be one

I remember hearing 10-20 seconds sometime in 2012. YouTube does not release this information on purpose so botters don't get around the algorithm
