Does a lack of uploading prevent you from gaining subs?

I noticed that sometimes after new upload I we'll get a spike of subscribers but overall the one thing which will bring you many subscribers are big gateway (sustained viral videos) in your niche.
 
Quality>Quanitity.
If your like nigahiga and only uploads 1/week/2weeks and it's a good video then yes you can grow but you will 100% grow quicker if you upload everyday such as pewds
 
My chanel tends to get a lot more views than subs (I mean the ratio is bigger compared to say, markiplier etc.) and that's totally due to my big slow upload speeds. one every few months and more isn't keeping too many people around, but its getting there slowly.

I think you should keep your channel, upload a video explaining your new schedule and that you intend to stick to it. :)
