Ah, thanks for all the help guys it really clears things up! So then it isn't really neccesary to join a network in the end right? And enabling "monetization" for your videos is the same thing as the old partnership with just Youtube itself?

by clicking "monetization", you get all the customization youtube offers and by signing up and linking google adsense, advertisements will flow into your videos.
