Best Software when compressing

I'm Currently using Fraps to record my videos, if any of you use fraps youll know how big the file sizes get, my question is how do you guys and girls compress down your file sizes down . currently im using windows live movie maker to compress to a .WMV file and then using handbrake to convert and compress down to a .mp4, as that seems to lower the size down well without any quality loss. Do you have a better way please tell me :)

MPEG Streamclip, it's the most professional out there to my opinion, also that's what I used when I worked in video companies :)
