Best programme to use for idents/youtube video intros

Hey guys!
I did mention this before but I am doing idents for my youtube channel for university coursework, if you don't know what an ident is, it is basically a little animation or video that is used to advertise a channel, or in my case to use as an intro to all my videos.
A bit like they use on TV
Anyway I was wondering what is the best programme to use to make this kind of thing? I am planning on using aftereffects but I still have very limited skills in it, is there a better one? or is aftereffects the best one to go for?
