Am I ruining my own retention?

I wondered the same thing and refrained from doing it. Well it turns out it doesn't affect it, it doesn't even count as a view haha.
 
If you get 100 views total, but 10 of them are you, then you will definitely have an impact!
You need statistically significant data in order to make proper conclusion about your retention.
What kind of numbers are you bringing in?
 
You're talking about views from the video manager. Youtube will ignore those views because, by definition, it knows it's the channel owner watching.
