Zoom h2n?

Jordan Rhodes

Loving YTtalk
we are looking for a audio recorder and came across the zoon h2n. before we buy it, does anyone have it and if so is it a good recorder? We have a canon t3i so we have problems with the audio gain, so we need a seperate external audio recorder, is the zoom h2n good, if not any suggestions?

As a mic, or as a recorder?

I have an H1, and I've used an H4. I wouldn't rely on their mic capabilities, but they're great as recording devices.

Oh boy, another microphone question! I'm interested in these too. I hope we both get a good answer for it :)

oh whoops sorry my bad, i meant recorder. with the t3i and its audio gain problems using it as a mic is not an option haha. but thanks! does your h1 pic up alot of noise? cus i might even just get the h1.

Honestly, nope. If you're using an external mic, I haven't experienced any interference within the camera body.

That said, I'd be sure you've tried everything with your camera first - I know with my Rode and the T4i, setting the Rode on +20db, and bringing the camera gain down to almost nothing fixed the problem. Dunno what you're running with, but it's wonderful not to have to sync in post.

i just bought a rode videomic pro and tried everything i could to get to sound right. but it sounded terrible ( even worse than just the camera's default mic). i looked all over the internet for a way to fix it and basically the only way is to use magic latern's audio gain disable feature which is not compatable with the t3i. lol so i had to sell my rode and now im pretty much forced to use an external audio recorder. not looking forward to having to sync up the audio in post:(

I personally love my Zoom. it is a really crisp sounding mic, as you stated the rode mic is not a good choice. It is good for on the fly shooting but for good crisp audio definitely not. You need to get an external recorder or a lav mic of some sort. The zooms never let me down and gave that extra boom in your voice. I even ran a cable to my computer and used it for commentary for a while. "Only down side is it ran off batteries"
