YT comment button greyed out

As of this morning I suddenly cannot use the comment button on YT. It is greyed out. This happens on all channels, so I know it's not a case of one channel blocking me. But as far as I know I have done nothing wrong anyway.

Oddly, a few minutes ago I was able to comment on a video, but still not others. And when I tried again on the channel that let me comment, I could not comment again.

Any idea what's causing this to happen?

I cleared cache/cookies and rebooted, etc. Still can't comment.
 
Update 4 months later: It resolved itself in a couple days just as mysteriously as it started.
