YouTube Video Storytelling Structures

Hi guys,

I'm sure almost 90% of everyone here on YTtalk writes their own material so this is a question about what kind of format or structure you guys like to follow or recommend. Recently I have been doing some research into studying some of my most favourite YouTube videos to see if I can identify any underlying structures that they follow.

For example, a 2:00 minute comedic video may follow this structure:

1) Intro 0:00-0:10​
  • Effectively demonstrate what the video is about, who is in the video, what is about to happen
2) Building the scene 0:10-0:20​
  • Providing dialogue and content that can draw the audience into the video

3) Setup situation for final closing joke 0:20-0:30​
  • Subtly begin to create hints or cues to create a setup for the big final closing joke of the video.
4) Escalation of video 0:30-1:00 ​
  • Immediately distract the audience from the situation we have just setup and increase our pacing/jokes/entertainment value)
5) Climax of Skit 1:00-1:20​
  • This is where the most entertaining content comes out. The silliest jokes, the funniest lines, the most epic moments.
6) Denouement/Winding Down 1:20-1:30​
  • At this point the skit calms down a bit and provides a bit of a pause before...
7) The Final closing joke/surprise/"Cherry" at the end 1:30-1:40​
  • This would be the ultimate joke that could be slapstick, a phrase, or a final omph from our setup that was created very early in the video that may have been forgotten until right now. The element of surprise should create a strong laugh and satisfaction for the viewer.
8) Credits/Annotations 1:40-2:00​
  • Throw up some clips of some other interesting videos on your channel to get people to watch more and hopefully subscribe for more content.
Anyway, that's a very simple structure I thought I'd share with you all, but I'd also love to hear everyone's thoughts on what they have noticed or what has well worked for them :) Cheers!

Dayuuum. I gotta say I just record and edit, then whatever fits...fits. I never noticed that even though I have Low Latent Inhibition haha
 
Yeah for the most part I don't follow a formula. I just make the video on the spot with no script or anything. I used to work for Disney, so I have pretty good skills with improv. Most of my videos are done in one take.
 
For a gaming channel, I don't like videos that's under 10 mins. For a vblogging channel for yours, it's very nice to keep a video entertaining enough to get a good retention rate while have a video that's long enough for your audiance to enjoy. I just check your latest video and I really liked it.

You have a very good plan right here. For me, I just get into my content right a way, then I have an outro at the end. It's a very simple format/receipt. The only suggestion that I would give you is to keep posting your video on a consistent base. I went to your video and there was a 3 weeks cap between your current video and your previous video. That kinda alerted me.
 
waw man ... just waw ... i`m like all the rest just record have fun and then eddit ... but that general description ... waw seems very interesting and i`m sure that smarter ppl then me can actualy get alot of beneficial feed back using it ... exept me ... i`m a moron lol
