I know this is probably an obvious tip but my tip is be original and different. I know this is crazy obvious but if you think about it more deeply, it isn't as obvious. If you are a gamer, you have lots of competition so try and do something slightly different to all the other gamer clones. It may be hard to think of something really different that sets you apart from similar channels but it will really help your channel!

e.g. even though i don't like W2S he is slightly different from other gamers, the same with Pewdiepie (although I like him).

Maybe you could check out similar channels and take note of what they could improve and use that in your videos. Just try and be original as possible.

This is very true. Even through most people know this, it is hard not to go the copy road, because you look at big YouTubers and see what made them so succesful.

Yeah, you put that really well. My problem is that I've spent a lot of time watching other gaming channels, and sometimes their mannerisms slip into my voice, so I really need to check myself, like, "I'm my own person, what works for them probably doesn't work for me."

For me it is pet videos. I watch them constantly and so I have an image in my head of what a popular pet channel is like. so I immediately go that road as well while I should try not to...
 
I would rephrase it differently: You need to create videos people want to watch. Look for the reason(s) why people should watch your videos instead of all the other 1000000 on Youtube.

If that makes you a copy-cat then whatever :)

Thats probably a better way to say it :) Im not very good with typing what I am thinking!
