YouTube or YouFraud?

So this has been on my mind for quite sometime now but ive noticed that many people underestimate the power of youtube. I believe Youtube is a huge media icon that has truly changed people and the world in general. But some people seem to believe that Youtube is just a site for entertainment or for people who have nothing better to do with their lives. For example when people ask me about my youtube and i mention revenue to them. Many people tell me that they had no idea that you could even get paid from Youtube. And its not just some its ALOT of people who tell me this. Or they ask me what is the point of me making videos? and Im just wasting my time.So it leads me to ask is it that people are just uneducated about Youtube? or are they simply unaware of how powerful this site really is? So what do you guys think of Youtube. Well respected Media Icon?or just another Entertainment Guru?

I think people who use YouTube regularly understand how powerful it is and people who don't think it's something people waste their time on.

For example, my parents don't believe that people can make a simple living off of YouTube (like $50,000 a year). Yet, there are several people who have made MILLIONS off of YouTube!

exactly man my mom is the same way.

I think it's because back when YouTube first came out, people just made random stupid videos just to say they are on YouTube. But people had a legit reason to laugh about it back then! And since I was one of those people, when my parents hear "YouTube", they automatically think those stupid skits I made in 5 minutes with my friends in 7th and 8th grade.

Oh my gosh are you the real smosh?

Naw I wish! xD If I was, I'm pretty sure my parents would know that YouTube is legit! Haha. I just put Smosh there cause I don't have a channel yet and just did it for s***s and giggles. :-P

It is still in its infancy, so of course not many people know about it yet. I think that if you give it time, maybe 10-20 years, it will come along as a very popular medium for various forms of entertainment. There are already tons of 10 year olds trying to make a channel right now. If they keep that motivation 20 years from now, imagine what they could make! I think it just needs time, honestly.

I think YouTube is the television of the future. Let me show you what I mean:

TV:

Several different tv shows
Several different tv channels
Advertisements
Able to record seasons (if you have Tivo or other recording programs)
TV shows come and go

YouTube:

Several different channels
Several different categories
Advertisements
Able to subscribe to channels
YouTube channels come and go

I agree, but I see a need for a lot of revamping and updating youtube. The term channel is used so loosely there. I thing there needs be more scheduling options, customization, branding and categorization; as well as interaction between users before it takes the TV throne.:cold:
