Your a couple months late on this i pretty much am ok with it ive always wanted a banner and i am glad to now have one and some of the other features are nice too but not totally loving it yet

To answer your question, everyone thinks that it's pretty terrible and quite plain. Everyone prefers the old YT layout where you can see more background. Anyway, I think that there's a ton of topics regarding this that you can read at YTtalk or you can even Google it. The question's pretty old and repetitive, so I'm closing this topic.
