¯\_(ツ)_/¯
YouTube is considering letting creators sell ad space.

“We’re experimenting with a new way for creators to sell advertising to brands with whom they already have a relationship,” Tom Leung, YouTube’s director of product management, said in a recent Creator Insider video (below). He added that YouTube is aware this is something a lot of creators are interested in, and said the feature is being tested right now in “a very small pilot.”

Could be interesting. I wonder what the revenue share with YouTube would be in that case.

Thoughts?

This is sales to companies you have a relationship with, not monetization in the classic sense. So you would have to reach out to locate companies willing to place ads on your channel, and they would have to do so directly.

Would this be interesting? Sure, but it's not a panacea.

Yeah, this seems like something useful only for the "big bois". It's also clearly a cash grab. YT is gonna take a cut for sure, instead of making $0 they're currently making from all these big YT influencers (God I hate that term) making tens, hundreds of thousands of dollars from sponsors and brand deals they push in their videos. For most bigger channels, YT ad revenue is just peanuts in their overall earnings - YT knows this, so they want to tap into where the big money is being made nowadays.
