YouTube in business

I've Got It
Sure there's people who just generally enjoy posting videos once and a while because it's fun. But there's a big portion of people aspiring to make a job out of it, just like their favourite youtubers.

I on another hand don't really want either. My channel is based around football/soccer, and I only really want to manage enough views per day to peak the interest of clubs within my country's first division. I've done my research and found that their online media just... Sucks. So with a decent number of more views than them, I'd enter their promotions into my videos for a commission.

Overall, at the moment I see YouTube as a gateway in creating professional relationships in the sports/marketing industries.

Does anyone else use YouTube in this way?

I am starting to use it to branch out to Indie game developers as one day soon (not soon) I will be making my own game from scratch and it will be good to have a network around me for advice and help when it comes to marketing, coding, getting on platforms like steam and the like. I also want to ensure my channel is big enough so when I do release the game I will have fans to buy it from me just because it is me that made it. I would also hope to have enough network on Youtube to promote it on their channel, kind of like when Syndicate helped release a game and everyone pretended it was good even though it wasn't (mine will be good though, hopefully).

I don't use it this way but I do understand it. The only problem is if I was a brand or just someone looking for a stepping stone, personally I wouldn't be using YouTube. It really relies on having strong personal followings for growing channels, as well as actually devoting the time to learn the system as much as you learn a professional job. To me that's more effort than is necessary when it's just something to be used.

Yeah that's what I'm talking about. Using YouTube for what it is, but also using it productively enough so that it helps achieve goals outside of it.

Rails2revolution:
Yeah there's definitely more positive outcomes to be taken out of YouTube than to just reach the above mentioned goals. I just thought it'd be a good head start considering I'm still studying.

That's the cool thing though, the end goal is to have Youtube and the other thing become a business and carry on with it to get the most benefits. But for me making a game I have already taken my audience from just friends and family to friends and family and 144 possible buyers. If they then reccommend it a friend it can grow exponentially from there on. I would be gaming and making a game without Youtube so it is not that much more to take on, just with far more benefits.

Shortly after starting my named channel for my reboot vlog, I was approached to do photo and video for fitness events in my state for several companies and sponsored athletes, while not all of the people use YouTube this entire situation got me exposure as a photographer and videographer at many race events like Spartan etc. while I may never make a living off YouTube alone, the amount of business I have gotten for photo/video has been amazing and it all started by me just vlogging.

Jake Fuller. Love these success stories haha. I feel like not enough people see YouTube for the platform that it is, and the potential that it has in creating opportunities away from the computer screen. It's great in so many aspects. I should probably go to sleep now though before I start thinking myself to death haha

I guess my youtube has been used as my showreel/portfolio when applying for jobs in the past, it also got me into uni way back when :D

but its more a personal hobby than a folder really.

I hope you can use it successfully!
