Youtube have Demonitized my Channel

I got a notification this evening that my entire channel has been demonitized. It's really frustrating because I know what triggered it and yet there seems to be no form of appeal.

I ask for permission from the copyright holders of all videos before using their clips. In this case I was given permission from a copyright holder to use a clip he had filmed on his mobile phone. He had also allowed Channel 4 to use the clip in a documentary from several years ago without payment or licensing in perpetuity.

So channel 4 had uploaded their documentary to Youtubes content identifier some time ago. The mobile phone clip in my video then triggers a content alert and I am told all is okay by Youtube, and that although I cannot monetize the clip, Channel 4 have allowed the clip to remain and ads might run on the video.

In the end I decided to remove the video, edit out the content that triggered the conflict and reupload.

After the review of the video Youtube have demonitized my whole channel and tell me I must wait 30 days before reapplying.

Is there no form of appeal against this?

You already had the chance to appeal when the video was first flagged. At that point you should have proved to YouTube that you had all of the required permissions to post the footage instead of being monetized by Channel 4.

Now, the best you can do is wait the 30 days and try again.

I honestly assumed Youtube's appeal process to be as bad as the process it uses when I have needed to issue takedown notices in the past: A limited means of proving you OWN the video and not that someone gave you the right to use it and then having to send them a URL of where the video was first hosted. Then wait a week for a cut and paste response.

Had I known just pulling the video and re-editing it to avoid the hassle of the process would be taken as a form of admission that I had breached copyright, I wouldn't have done it.

If someone can point out where I can read up on this policy in Youtubes terms and conditions I would greatly appreciate it, so I can see what else I might need to be aware of.

Was that for duplication?
I ask for permission from the copyright holders of all videos before using their clips.
That is what duplication is! The content is not yours. It does not matter if you have permission. YouTube a clamping down on the monetization of channel that do not have original content

There is no option to appeal. Generally they do allow you to reapply in 30 days, but that is pointless unless you fix the reason for being demonetized.

hi, I had the same issue: entire channel been demonetized. The vague reason by Youtube is "duplication". My channel is mainly doing video lyrics.. some video already not allowed monetized as copyright claim by owner, some sharing of revenue. These 2 reasons are both acceptable to me and most Youtuber doing video lyrics, I guess. But the latest blanket banned due to vague " duplication" from youtube, and no specific reason given by Youtube is really unreasonable. What are your views?

Lyrics are copyrighted, if you do not have legal permission from the owners to post it, YouTube is going to take it down.
