YouTube Audience Retention - The downhill slope

Michael

I Love YTtalk
Does anyone here have a video with excellent audience retention where it doesn't just look like a continuous downhill slope on the chart? I have noticed on most of them the retention is like this:

Untitled-1.png

That to me looks like obvious immediate interest at the beginning, people slowly leaving the video to begin with, theyre then watching as something hooks them for about 30 seconds before its back to the downhill slope of misery.

What are yours like? Do most of them resemble this lol

I have noticed some funny things with the audience retention on a few videos, the info type ones especially you see great interest at the start and soon as you tell them how to fix the issue the slope just drops right down sharply, its like they got what they need and theyre gone without watching the end, it doesn't surprise me though, I have noticed most seem to almost completely drop off during the YTtalkTV outro too.

:D

Share your experiences with it and if you haven't seen your audience retention and fancy jumping into this thread, check here:

and then click Audience Retention down the side and select a video of yours.

yea i just checked mine they look similar to yours but a bit more rigid they dont go straight down but yeah most of mine are like that i guess just naturally ppl lose interest as the video goes on.I think it would be difficult to keep there attention the ENTIRE video but maybe im wrong.

All of my videos tend to follow the same trend as well (with the exception of 1 minute videos).

Granted, my videos are mostly 20+ minutes. One is even an hour long. :D

This is for lifetime views though so I don't know if that's what you were looking for, because all the other ones are downhill slopes.Capture.PNG

In my videos I play different characters and one of the characters had a 100% audience retention percentage. One of my other characters lost retention half way through.
I spoke to some YouTube staff members at SITC, they advised using annotations at points to regain interest. Also If your videos follow a similar structure you can check multiple videos and see if it is a regular trend for a certain segment/topic.
Hope this helps in some way =]

Even my most viewed videos are like that, but of them are more gradual, like this one. This one has a mini death cliff at the end haha.
