Worth Upgrading my camera?

Hello all. So i got this real nice video camera for my 16th birthday in September 2011 and i am considering an upgrade.. It is a sony handy cam HDR-XR160 and i have filmed nearly all my videos with this camera. However, lately i have noticed that it isn't all as great as it used to be. I am going to film school in the fall and they will have cameras you can check out that will be top quality, however i am unsure if it is worth getting a new camera now or just using those cameras once i get to college until after i graduate and get my self a NICEE camera or not. Technology gets old fast and i really think i need a new camera but should i hold off or no?

Yeah i have lots of money from my graduation parties! plus my grandma is willing to pay for at least part of one if i decide i want one but i'm not sure if i want one yet!

Wait till you've started film school to see which system makes most sense for you, considering what exactly you'll have access to.
That makes sense! thanks! Yeah we re required to purchase a macbook for schooling so sony isn't the best option so i need a different brand than sony.

Tons of people make the mistake of buying a Blackmagic, RED etc camera as soon as they go to film school despite having no clue how to make the most of them..huge money waste!
However buying a DSLR isn't a bad idea as long as you don't go into the crazy expensive territory :p[DOUBLEPOST=1370812662,1370812631][/DOUBLEPOST]

Wow that sucks
You do know Sony cameras work with MacBooks right? :p

No, i'm not going for that camera, the one i have my eyes on is a

Canon VIXIA HF G20 2.37 MP Camcorder - 1080p.

You should look it up, i am in love with it! Not too pricy either!

Yeah, there are always a bunch of factors to consider to get a good workflow. I bought a HVX200 during film school which, at the time, worked best in combination with Avid on a PC laptop. Also you don't want to get something that you'll have access to at film school anyway, that would be wasted money.
