Worth upgrading camera?

The Bassment

Posting Mad!
I currently use a little JVC Picsio camera for my videos but I'm thinking of upgrading (probably to a 600D, just to stand out from the crowd ;)). Given that the camera costs around what I make per year through YouTube at the moment (based on current daily revenue, I've only been on YT for a little over a year), is it worth the upgrade? Has anyone else got experience of the effect on viewer numbers brought about by improving picture quality?

Thanks!

Well, its all about if you want it, if you think that it will benefit your channel I say make whatever investment you can :)

dude.. only get the 600d if you will use it also for other things, mainly photgraphy, i got it myself.. quality is epic.. yet camera can only give what you do.. i think its more important how you talk... and youtube wont even see such high quality lol

Thanks for the advice :) I think I'll wait a little longer, maybe when my ad earnings go up some more and the videos can pay for the camera

A nicer camera is always a good thing! However you don't need to nicest gear to make the best quality stuff. Take the video below shot all on a cell phone for example.

600D is ok for filming, I mentioned in another thread that just getting the base camera isn't enough. You need a nice fast lens (primes are good), lighting, tripod, and mic since the DSLR mic is crap. That camera also drains power and fills up memory pretty fast at 1080p.

To answer your second question, I use some heavy duty equipment, but I wouldn't say it's made me insta famous haha. I think it helps, since my viewers will comment on the quality of the video/audio, but it's not a free ticket to growth. Content is still king.
