Will the actual link to my channel change to my custom link?

Hey guys,
So I just hit 100 subscribers a couple days ago (whoop), and today I had a look at the eligibility for getting a custom URL. It seems that even though I don't remember making one, I already seem to have one. However, when I go to my channel, the URL in the address bar is still the original one. Will this change on it's own or will I have to change it? Screenshot_17.png

your channel custom url is www.youtube.com/beckybooo

I don't think this being eligable for a custom url was around when I made my channel either way, that is your url it doesn't have the channel or user bit.

At least I think this is right.[DOUBLEPOST=1456171903,1456171877][/DOUBLEPOST]it still says the stuff at the top with the ugly code tho

I've been wondering this too, my custom url (katesadventures) takes people to my channel but once it's loaded, it reverts back to the original url.
Yes exactly! Maybe it changes after 500 subs? Not sure

I didnt realise that that code bit didn't happen for bigger youtubers. Bearing in mind that it took me 11 years to notice this I don't think that its going to affect our channels progress too much :)

I think it will always show that ugly long string of letters and numbers whenever you are on your channel.
But your custom url should still redirect to your channel.

If you type YouTube.com/[yourcustomURLhere] i.e. for me that's YouTube.com/Tipharot, it's only a redirect, and so takes you to the old url with all the letters/numbers/etc.

If on the other hand you type YouTube.com/c/[yourcustomURLhere] i.e. YouTube.com/c/Tipharot/ in my case, that's not just a redirect, and the page will say /c/Tipharot/ when I go there.

ALL YouTubers have that weird long URL, even big people like PewDiePie, his is YouTube.com/channel/UC-lHJZR3Gqxm24_Vd_AJ5Yw for example. If someone clicks to go back to your channel, or you click the channel link in the side, it'll always show that long URL. Same for PewDiePie. However if you search for "PewDiePie" and click the link to his channel in the search, it'll show as /user/PewDiePie/ - /c/ is basically their replacement for /user/ and it's what we get now. The moment you click on one of his videos though and then click his channel link again, you can once again see /channel/UC-lHJZR3Gqxm24_Vd_AJ5Yw. Also as far as I'm aware if you have a /c/ URL then when you're found in search it'll still direct to the long URL not the short one.

Basically the purpose of the custom URL is just to make your channel easier to link to, not to make the URL any nicer looking when you're there.
