Will Facebook video ever challenge YouTube?

Facebook video *claims* it's getting views...but it probably helps that the gosh darn things play as soon as you scroll past it in your feed.

There seems to be a lot of holes in FB video. It doesn't seem like a good platform at all except for maybe videos of cute cats or whatever...but then again, that's how YouTube gained traction at first!

Buzzfeed, for instance, will upload the same video to their facebook and to their YouTube channel...problem is, you can't monetise a facebook video, so I really don't understand their reasoning behind that.

Anyways, what are your opinions? Me, I think Facebook video really *wants* to challenge YouTube, but their interface shows that they have no clear understanding of the online video format. What do you think?

The part when you mentioned about you can't monetize a video on Facebook could be tilting in favor in them. I mean, back in late 2005 to early 2007 before the Google takeover, YouTube was "personal". Back then it was the vloggers, the ones that shared their personal funny moments and opinions. Facebook in my opinion has the advantage.

I heard Facebook videos are gonna have ads on them as well, but just for Facebook and not the admins.
I'm sure that the admins are gonna try to start a petition if it happens lol

I prefer YouTube, I'm okay with Facebook pages that make their own content but I dislike YouTube reuploads.

I don't think Facebook will ever better YouTube. A lot of people don't even like Facebook any more and I barely post anything. The video system is annoying to me usually (unless cats) YouTube is much better and easier to navigate in terms of videos you actually want :)

On the bright side.... facebook can post vids of cats rocking their heads to Turn Down For What without being fuckin copyright claimed.

Facebook will never match YouTube as a video hosting service anymore. It's good for personal videos in the way that YouTube used to be where now YouTube mostly has creators focusing on quality content that can be used to actually entertain mass audiences. Yes, videos do tend to go viral on Facebook, but with how Facebook limits its reach of posts (which I'm sure YouTube doesn't do) anybody who's creating for a small audience will have even smaller exposure to their content thanks to this.

Almost all Facebook video posts are basically reposts of popular Youtube videos. Being able to monetize these reposts would be a gigantic legal mess that Facebook would not want to touch with a 100 foot pole.

Facebook is far too personal. It would never be the same format as youtube. Yeah, every video gets auto played when you're looking down on your feed, imagine if youtube changed it so when you check your sub feed, the videos started playing automatically and we would all have more views, sounds enticing but you know those views wouldn't be genuine. Youtube all the way!

Well recently I've realized that FACEBOOK pages upload videos, and views are counted, but I dont know if the facebook pays you for placing ads on your page or video. So I think YouTube is genuine way of gaining video popularity. That's why YouTube is unique :D
