Why most MCN's are trash...

With over 450mn+ views a month, 1500+ channels, a subscriber and social media base of over 12Mn, [name removed] Network produces over 70 minutes of original content everyday. The network today has over 300,000 videos online.
BENEFITS OF OUR NETWORK
New Revenue Opportunities: We got 3 of our channels a 100% share of voice for the MENA region as these ranked amongst the top 20 channels being watched in the Middle East. What that means is, all advertising from the Middle East would be directed to these channels, thus getting them more bang for the buck.
High income: You would be paid a Playback Based CPM between 1 to 15 dollars and sometimes even higher, based on your video content and the seasonality in the advertising market. After our golden handshake you yourself will be able to draw a distinction between your current earnings and earnings after our partnership.

Sounds great right?

Those big and lofty numbers... 450 million views, 1500+ channels and 300,000 videos on line. Big numbers, I must join and become huge myself! AND OMG the YOUTUBE CASH I would be raking in due to their connections with Coca Cola and Panasonic (which was further down in the email, not shown above). Now I have an adversity to these crooked tactics MCN's use to get new blood. Time and time again I get proven right that both big and small YouTubers get screwed on promises after they joined up. So I decided to take the numbers apart and came to the following conclusion:

450,000,000 monthly views over 1,500 channels = 300,000 views per channel.
Ok, I do about 40k views a month, not a lot. 300,000 views a month sounds GREAT! Lets DO IT!

Oh wait...
450,000,000 monthly views over 300,000 videos = 1,500 views per video per month.
Ah, the cat's out of the bag. Please tell me more on how you can increase my viewership when I routinely hit 1,500 on at least 10 of my videos at any given time. And that 1,500 number doesn't even work in real life because I used simple math. I have a total op 90+ videos on-line, but only 10 of those do 1,500+ a month. See where I am going with this? They probably have 100 big view channels which pump up the average to something that looks presentable.

Oh... 12,000,000 subscribers you say? 1,500 channels leaves about 8,000 per channel. Sure, I am at ~3,600 subscribers right now, but you can bet your behind that won't grow a lick after joining an MCN. Content, Quality and appeal grows subscriber counts, not MCN's and their empty promises. And again, I used simple math. They probably have a 100 big subbed channels and a bunch of hopeful bottom feeders that they leach from.

So there you have it... you'll end up generating revenue for the MCN, yet have no benefits. They will push their top creators much like YouTube does (it's a business thing, you spend resources on that which generates a bigger return, not the other way around). The only benefit you will see is an increase in anger at yourself for being tricked into a loosing proposition. Just don't do it...

MCN's are for the most part garbage unless you already have a massive channel. A while back I joined an MCN and made them lower their contract term to 6 months because I was expecting it to not be so good. Anyways, after asking them specific questions and getting answers I joined. After a while I got pretty mad because they didn't do anything that they had promised they would.

After a few months and asking multiple times for them to actually do what they said they would I told them to shred my contract. They said no. I said you're going to do it NOW because what you did was illegal. I saved all the emails and I sent copies to them to show them I was falsely advertised to and baited & switched - both of these things illegal. Contract voided.

I assume most MCN's are the same way. Don't bother with these losers they are in it 100% only for themselves.

can you explain why a bigger channel would benefit from MCN?

if you have 1million + subs and earning say $25,000 a month from youtube. Why would you want to share that kind of revenue with MCN who does nothing for you?

can you explain why a massive channel would have more benefits? cos it seems like MCN is an even worse deal if your channel is already big.

Some MCN's can offer the same split as AdSene + additional revenue from Ad sales team + act as your talent manager. The thing is, however, you have to have all that written in the contract. And you need to find a reputable MCN.

I think MCN's can sound appealing, especially when your small and growing but for the most part you're probably better off going solo unless you do find a reputable MCN like CousinEd said, definitely scrutinize any contracts you sign.

mcn is like a manager and you have someone to turn to when you have problems or why bother being in a mcn if youre the kind of person who can managed yourself
