Why monetize your videos?

I monetized as soon as I saw the option, I was making maybe 4 or 5 cents a day because I had 3 videos with horrible SEO. Once I fixed my SEO and started uploading and everything, the money started building up. I can't say I'm swimming in a pool full of Youtube money, but I've been able to justify buying my GoPro Hero 3 Black and the camera before that with Youtube money, so i basically put the money back into video stuff. I figure if I earned the money making videos, it's justification that the videos paid for themselves. You never know too, what if a video suddenly gains tons of views out of nowhere? That's usually what happens to a viral video, and you may miss out on a decent chunk if you weren't monetized. One of my videos suddenly got about 21k views over a span of a couple days because somebody embedded my video on a couple of sites that happened to get me a good amount of views, before that it got maybe 100 over a span of a week.
