Why Has Youtube Done This With End Screens?

I am releasing a channel trailer tomorrow, and all i wanted to do was add one of those subscription end cards to the end of my video, i didn't want to do an end screen or anything like that because i felt like it kind of ruined the effect a bit. Anyway it turns out you HAVE to have a end card which takes your viewers to a video or playlist too if you want to use any of the other cards.

I didn't even realise this was a thing, i swear i have seen a couple of big youtubers in the past do a video and right at the end the only card that appeared is the subscription card, that's all i wanted to add, i had to add video end cards in the end too. I just don't know why youtube made it like that, is there a way to do this, or am i just being blind and completely missed the video end cards in the mentioned videos.

Under the end screen option I was able to add just the subscribe option.

it wouldn't let me it just kept saying you need to have an element that links to a video or playlist

Worked on one channel, but now it's giving me the same message. "At least one element must be a video or playlist."

My channel is 3 months old, and I've always had to add a video or playlist before I can add an end card.

I remember it was like this in the very initial beta stages for larger channels (only I remember it was a square channel picture instead of a round circle), but now they required at least one video linked when it rolled out to all of us... :/ But it's good to link your videos together! I'd either put together a playlist of your best-performing videos and link it at the end of your channel trailer, or I'd pick the "best for viewer" option. ^_^

This is the first time ive tried to do just one card tbf i just found it a bit annoying thats all that they make you do that but oh well!

I agree with Katy - Linking to videos really is a good thing for lots of reasons. - But if you really want to give priority to people subbing, you can have the "sub" end card for the first 15 seconds and then just have the "vid" link for the last 5 seconds.
