Why doesn't the video show in the editing process?

Hey guys,
So Iv'e just recorded my first video, and I imported it into Sony Vegas Pro 11 as an AVI, which was the file that comes straight from the camera, but for some reason, the audio is only shown and the video is black, I played the unedited video and it definitely recorded, but for some reason it won't show in the editing. Is there any way I can fix this? (See screenshot for view)

That is a little strange. It might be that Sony Vegas doesn't like the type of AVI file that your videos are. Try converting them to another video type, mp4 is usually a widely compatible file type.

If not it might be that your media isn't linking properly. In that case you can try this:

Sony Vegas is a great program but it has weird issues like this.

Well the converter sort of worked :/ I used a programme I googled that turns AVI into MP4 but it seems to put black bars around it :/
