Why does youtube feature only big channels on the right side?

hmm is that really true? When I checked my sources I get a lot of traffic from people who watched videos from similar content as my video

How big is a big channel? I have 2 related on mine that are below 6000 subs.

I'm featured often in the right sidebar and I'm not a big channel at all.

If you start watching small channels then you will start seeing them recommended in your sidebar.

No, not the about page. I'm only talking about videos that are recommended alongside a video that you are watching. If you watch smaller channels, YouTube may have them appear on the side while you are watching other videos.

If you click on the Recommendations tab on mobile, or if you visit YouTube.com through the main page, it may recommend smaller channels as well if you visited them recently.
