Why do some comments appear only in notifications?

Hello friends,

I have only had a YT channel for 6 months. Twice in the past couple days, people have commented on videos on my channel, and the comment appears in my notifications when I click the bell icon, but the comment never appears on the page of the video. I find that really creepy. Why is this happeneing?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer,

Stymie

I have seen that on some comments too. I am not sure what it is. Sometimes they show up in the comments a few days later - which is even weirder. Originally I thought maybe they got posted, went to notification, then got deleted... I have learned to just ignore those comments if they never actually show up. They either stay gone, or they eventually show up and I can answer them.

I experience it too. They seem like normal comments.
I don't know if YouTube think it's from a suspicious account or similar, and then removes it. (While leaving the notification).
Just a guess though.

Not sure, but like Vebstedsen, I think it's because youtube is flagging them as potential spam. It used to be that you would just have to approve them but I don't see an approve button anymore.
I think it's YouTubes way of saying it's suspicious. It still lets the video creator see it, but until youtube approves it on their end, they're not going to show it to other users. Some of my commenters will always have this issue and maybe it's because of where they live or because of the type of videos they also comment on. Or maybe they used to Spam other users in the past.

2 things to note:

  • If you go on your video and sort by most recent instead of relevant it sometimes shows you some of these missing comments and you can reply.
  • If you're on mobile you can use the YouTube studio app and these comments often show up there. From there you can reply.
edit - i think it has something to do with this

Thanks for all the input. I have settings set to "show all comments."

But, I noticed that both of the comments I mentioned before had 2 things in common:

1. It wasn't clear if they had actually watched my video.

2. They were asking me to check out another channel.

However, one of them did subscribe to my channel, so that's cool.

Thanks again,

Stymie
