WHY DO MY VIDS HAVE SUCH POOR IMAGE QUALITY!?

Hi there, in case you can't tell by the all caps title, I'm a little p****d off... to say the least.

To cut a long story short - my image quality is terrible and I have no idea why.

To cut a short story long - I film in full 1080p HD and edit using Sony Movie Studio. Initially I was using a small Nikon Coolpix, so I could have understood if that was what was causing the problems. But I recently borrowed a relative's Canon EOS 60D (a f***ing good camera), again filmed in full 1080 HD and edited in Movie Studio. Yet my videos STILL look terrible and quite pixelated, especially on mobile devices. It's like watching CCTV footage (security cams for you Americans). It almost looks like it has been compressed to within an inch of its life. I can't for the life of me understand why this is happening, it was an amazing camera, and I render in "Highest quality". I have tried playing about with every setting there is on the editing software, but I still can't get that crisp professional look I see from most people on YouTube.

Please have a look at my two latest videos (Monsters University Review and Top 5 Movie Monsters) as these are the ones I filmed on the 60D. I even used studio lights to make sure it was well lit, but still nothing. I've seen much better quality videos from lesser equipment, and I just don't understand why no matter what I do it still looks like s**t.

Can someone please please help me? This is really stressing me out as I've looked through every online tutorial I can and still can't get the desired quality.

I'm pretty sure it's driving people away from my channel too. I get hardly any views as it is, but I can see on Analytics that several people watch for less than a minute before quitting, and I'm 99% sure image quality has at least something to do with it.

Apologies for the long post, but I'm really annoyed at this and at this point I'm thinking of quitting YT because it is just not worth the hassle. I love making the videos, but boy does it take time. And I really do put a lot of effort into my content, so I'd hate for something as simple as image quality to let me down.

Cheers, Lee

If your video is 720 then you're exporting it on the wrong setting. It's that simple, really!

Also I can assure you: the quality your videos are at is not the reason people are leaving your channel. I can't say what that reason is, but your video quality is just fine. Heck, look at mine - it's a webcam. My subs are going up like the clappers.

It's the content, not the resolution, that drives subscribers.

I film in 1080 and export in 720... doesn't work.

I film in 1080 and export in 1080... takes about a day and a half to upload the clip - still doesn't work.

I have honestly tried everything I can think of... running out of ideas lol.

Not to be cheeky or anything, but what do you mean by that? Are you saying my content sucks? If so, no worries, but could you please pm me or something to give me some constructive criticism as opposed to a public bashing lol. I honestly believed my content was good. I am passionate about what I talk about, and I put effort into what I say.

As I said, I don't know what that reason is. I haven't even watched your videos properly so I wouldn't know. My point is content = views. If you look at the most popular videos ever not all of them are 1080p amazing HQ masterpieces.

Haha ok, sorry I read your message as "there is definitely a reason but I'm not going to say what".
And yeah I get that it doesn't need to play on an IMAX, but I want to know why after recording on professional equipment, it still looks like bad cell phone footage.

Your videos are actually in pretty good hd 0_0 I don't see any sort of blur at all really, the quality looks good to me. ha ha are these videos ones you haven't uploaded yet? or are you referring to your videos that are already up?

I'm referring to the ones that are up. The two most recent ones I uploaded tonight, and were shot on the Canon. The effect is amplified on a mobile device, but I still get poor quality on a desktop.

Most mobile devices don't default to 1080p streaming. YouTube does downscale videos based on the viewers preferances which may explain the difference there.

Does the video quality look good while its in your editor??
If so then its your export settings. Just because you export at 720p, doesnt mean thats automatically going to give you excellent quality. Increase the bit rate a little and see what that does. I edit on FCPX so am not familiar with the editor you use, but thats probably the avenue you need to follow and investigate further...

you could be exporting your videos either at a low bit rate or in a bad codec format. try exporting at h.264 it is youtube friendly good quality and uploads fast. plus the file sizes stay relatively small. i wouldnt know how to change this is sony movie maker but im sure you can look up how to change file codecs in your editor online.[DOUBLEPOST=1375582342,1375582142][/DOUBLEPOST]i checked out your vidoes. another issue is your audio. it is FAR TO LOW. you need to raise up the volume in your editor. bad audio will drive away a viewer way faster then bad video. i speak for experience
