why do first episodes always get more views?

I recently released a new Let's Play series, I wasn't sure how well it would do but I through out the first episode and for something that's totally different from the first of my videos it did better then I thought with around 40 views (I normally get 100-400 on each video) so I went ahead and released the 2nd episode yesterday.. it's on 4 views.. are there really only 4 people on youtube and out of my 2.1k subscribers that want to watch episode 2? did no one want to carry on watching after episode 1??

So as my thread is titled.. does anyone else have this sometimes?

I've not noticed this myself (then again I haven't specifically studied my numbers like that), but if this is happening perhaps watch your videos back and see if they became repetitive or perhaps less interesting/exciting than the first video and try to recreate the 'magic' that got that video so many views :)

I normally do watch my videos back but for the Let's Play episode 2 comes straight after episode 1 because I just recorded loads of the game and then split it into 15 minute videos :)

Because when you see a let's play series and you see ep 2 after it, you usually go click to find episode 1 instead cause you feel like you're supposed to start at the beginning, if you don't like episode 1 you won't watch episode 2. :) I is smart.

ahh that makes sense :) but surely some of the people who watched episode 1 would then go.. oh yer that was good let's watch episode 2? It's making me think I should just stop the series cause doing a live commentary on xbox is a lot of effort with syncing the voice and stuff...

Sure, but think about your ratio, I mean, I think for most of us and especially in the let's play realm (sheer volume) you're probably snagging about a 3rd of the audience at most. I mean, if you weren't then you'd have stats like 15,000 views and 12,000 subscribers or you know. Most people have short attentions spans and are bored just thumbing through crap, and there's ALOT of let's plays out there. So I mean, I'm sure some go to watch more, but I bet alot are just like "Ok this is pretty cool... whoa is that a pair of boobs in my recommendations??" *click*
