Which mic to buy?

Hey everyone. Firstly, let me just say that I am well aware of the numerous threads already written here about which microphones to buy for your camera. However, none of them were helpful to me as I really have no idea what I'm talking about.

Photoshop, I am great. Video editing, I'm good. Audio, I literally have no idea.

So I have the Canon 700D and I need an external microphone. I've done a fair bit of research as to what brand is the best etc. I've discovered that Rode seems to be very popular and a great quality product... However, I have no idea which one to get? I don't even know what size cable my camera can fit?

Are all cameras capable of recording with both mono and stereo mics?

I think I've narrowed it down to two options;
VideoMic Go
and
Stereo VideoMic Pro

Would either of them work with the Canon 700D? Are they decent mics? Is there something better I should use?

Someone please help me :( haha

P.s it's obviously for regular YouTube videos. Standing in front of the camera and talking...

Your sound quality is amazing. But that mic is more for commentary uses. I want a shotgun type one to attach to the top of the camera :)

Thanks man I really appreciate hearing that. I do work very hard to get that sound due to it being USB only all the equalizaition, and enhancement has to be done in post. The mic by itself without EQ or anything is pretty meh but with enhancement it's amazing. As for your question though. This mic should be adequate. http://goo.gl/KMgoJO I have heard great things about RODE mics and was considering one before I went with Samson because of the cost plus the small stand and pop filter.

hahahahaha I literally bought that one earlier.

I don't know too much but I just started YouTube almost a month ago I believe and I bought a blue snowball microphone and I love it!!!! But if that's not what your looking for I can look up some mics for you and send you some that's has great recommendations

Oh darn I wish I could've gotten to this post sooner. I've been researching microphones non stop for the last 1 whole month. If I'm not too late or maybe down the line you may reconsider, I'd highly recommend the Rode NTG 2 or 3, if you have the budget of course. They're mainly used for indie films, so the quality should be amazing, and in your case it will be of great use.

If you are on a tight budget the RODE Videomic is an excellent choice. I use one when shooting short films and it produces perfectly adequate quality sound. It also comes with a Rycote-Lyre (I believe that is the name of it) shock mount that helps to absorb camera motion and impacts.

How does the blue yeti stack up to the samson c01u. I like mine but i think it makes me sound like an 80 yr old long island chainsmoker lol
