Which camera

I'm a very small youtuber but I want to step up my video quality and do some photography things as well. I'm currently just filming on my phone and because of that I do mostly vlogs. I'm torn between getting the Canon G7X or the Canon T5i with the Rode mic kit. the G7X will be better for vlogging but the T5i with mic will really step up my sit down video quality and it's better of photography.

I would say go for the canon g7 x, just because im a full supporter of 1080p 60fps video and on top of that you have the added benefit of it being very mobile but the drawback obviously is you can't swap out lenses. all you have to do then is get a lavalier mic or some other kind of external mic and you are good to go! the upside to the t5i is interchangeable lenses but then you loose the 60fps and its a lot more bulkier to carry around. so I suppose it depends on what suits you better i couldnt say what gives a better picture though as i have handled neither.

I agree with GamingRack. The G7X is going to give you a little more flexibility. It's portability will allow you to do vlogs in addition to other video types.

I think if you also want to do photography as well as stepping up your video quality, definitely go for the T5i. Interchangeable lenses will allow you to be more flexible, do different types of photography, and you can keep adding to your lenses as and when you have funds. As for the lack of 1080 60fps on the t5i as mentioned above - I don't think that's a massive loss for general vlogs.

One thing I forgot to note that you can still use an external mic with the G7X.

I record vlogs with my Sony RX100 M3 regularly and I normally record audio using My Zoom H6 audio recorder and then sync in post.

Get a T5i and stick a Sigma 18-35mm on that thing and you'll love life! If you have any interest at all in doing semi-pro photo/video you want the DSLR. I film all my videos in 23fps (23.97) and they look pretty dang nice if I do say so myself... 60fps is simply a luxury.

The g7x is pretty good but it has a slow focus and it annoys me when I watch the vlogs - cause they're all using the same camera lol BUT I'm waiting for the g7x mark ii! It's coming out in May and I heard it's heaps better, but can't be sure till it's released!

What about the canon SL1? Its the smallest DLSR canon makes. if you're worried about video quality get a DSLR. If you're worried about portability get a compact camera. The Canon SL1 is kind of in-between that... more so leaning in the DSLR direction because it's definitely bulkier than your average compact camera and it IS a DSLR. If you put the 24mm stm lens on it, then you'll have a decently comfortable "DSLR vloging setup"

Also considered the Canon M camera. Its a mirror-less camera with the power of a cropped sensor DSLR, and the portability of a compact camra. However you are limited to a lesser range of lenses (with out using an adapter).

When it comes to video quality its more that just the camera, its also about lighting and post production. And with audio, mic placement is also important. You could just use your phone to get great audio. Lol.

Cannon G7X - it has fairly decent audio quality and good video quality. You mentioned photography - you can take pretty decent photos on it as well!
