When you really think about youtube

Symph

I'm a dude with a face and I know how to use it.
It is one of the coolest things man has come up with. And what people are doing with youtube is amazing. Up until the last 100 years or so, people spoke in person, through letters, or not at all. When one human being is in the presence of another, it also alters their behavior. So in a sense, people couldn't fully express themselves. They could only express themselves within the confines of how the other person in their presence affected their mood and thoughts.

Now how cool is this, there is this community that meets on the internet. We aren't actually WITH each other, but we all KNOW each other. And we communicate through videos. This is amazing because you aren't limited by the personalities of others, you can express yourself however you want, and not only that, you can use animation and music and camera tricks, to bring what you are saying and doing up to a whole different level of expression. You don't just talk, you show images, you embed songs, you wear costumes, you do cut aways and instead of just saying what you're trying to say, you're making a whole video audio experience out of it.

The fact that this is a community. The fact that people get "famous" within their circles, and we have clicks, we've got the ranters, the musicians, the comedians, the fashionistas, the deep thinkers, the artists, the otakus... I mean, how fun is it to watch people like the Archfiend and Mues Productions get into it with the vloggers they rant on? How cool is it when you watch channels come together, and this guy you liked on one channel is now featuring this guy you liked in another.

It's like we've been given a magic mirror that can portal us to a place where we can watch and interact with millions of other people with the same mirror. But instead of this mirror just reflecting yourself, it actually gives you the ability to appear super human, to say what you are saying exponentially with incredible tools to help you do it.

It seems like something they would make a movie about, but it's real..

It's certainly one hell of a community, I have to agree with that and the atmosphere is usually great minus the trolls and haters. The power of the internet and great minds! :D

Yeah but even the trolls give us a common enemy to rise against. Youtube can be like sailing treacherous seas sometimes, but that also makes it exciting. I'd say the one thing I could do without is all the copycat videos. It'd be alot easier to find good material if we could weed out all the copy cat videos and fake videos. But aside from that, I even welcome the trolls (the ranting mean kind, not the "trick you into getting rick rolled kind) because it unites the positive people against them. No offense to anyone who's thinking of making one, but if I see one more cinnamon challenge video I'm going to round up all the cinnamon on earth and shoot it into the sun. Let's see if the sun can handle the cinnamon challenge :)

I dont mind copycats, well it depends, if they were to rip off a unique show or episode completely then that would be a disgrace but if they used ideas from the show in their own and created something somewhat unique then I wouldn't be too bothered. For example say I done a comedy channel and liked your singing and started singing in my own comedy videos that would be fine to me but if I started singing your songs or behaving in the same way that wouldn't be good.

I have actually enjoyed these cinnamon challenges as much as I think its stupid and pointless lol all in all it is every video that contributes to the spirit of YouTube even if things get repetitive :D

I think we're talking about two different things here. Well except with stuff like the cinnamon challenge, you're right, in that case every time is different because every person reacts differently to the challenge. I mean List Girl actually BEAT it... she's the only one I know of who has swallowed that cinnamon... (you must have super saliva glands) And so in that case, you're right. And when someone takes an idea like if someone said "I'm going to see if I could write a song about every item in my room" and then someone goes "hey that's a fun idea, I could do that in my own way" And writes their own songs about their room, still taking the idea, that's fine too.

I'm talking about the people who see a video, and literally recreate it in the hopes of riding on that success. Best example I know was the s**t People Say phenomenon. I know that SOME people actually expounded on the idea and did different kind of parodies of it, but MANY people just did the same thing as the original video, putting a different race in front of it. Or like when that Ryan Holmes kid stole the "Her Peas" idea from that other channel (the name is on the tip of my tongue... no luck) I mean sure, Ryan Holmes vamped it up and changed the vibe, but it's the same joke.

I just think that not only is that so lame it shouldn't be allowed (nothing looks more pathetic than proving yourself uncreative WHILE stealing someone's idea at the same time. Not that being uncreative is unattractive, but being uncreative and trying to APPEAR creative is VERY ugly..) but it messes up the fairness of the system. Ryan Holmes has thousands of views on his "Her Peas" video, but the original person who came up with the idea has like 200 views. That's not right, all those views and likes Ryan got should have gone to the guy that created the joke in the first place. Not the little kid who stole the idea and made it more teeny bopper friendly. Phew... I don't know why but I got kind of worked up while I was thinking about that lol... it's ok Chris... it's just youtube...

Yeah I see what you mean now, doing that is really shi*ty of someone, stealing someone's limelight isnt fair at all, it makes me feel bad for whoever thought it up originally. It is mad how much YouTube can work oneself up lol :D I am like that talking about the internet but in person with people

I'm pretty laid back usually, but certain people just really rub me the wrong way. Like people like Shane Dawson and Jenna Marbles and such, they annoy me, and I find them shallow, but it's no big deal. That's just the difference between them and me, they are a little more invested in the culture than I am and are willing to be more offensive than I enjoy, just a difference in tastes, no big deal.

But then there's people like Onision, and a certain someone I've already named, who the things they do are just so pathetic, so void of self respect, begging subscribers for money, stealing others' ideas, telling their audience "What do you want me to do? Give me ideas for things to do in my videos!" (which there's nothing wrong with, if you have OTHER ideas for videos, it's totally different when you're saying "I have no idea what to post, help me figure it out") Cause basically what that's saying, and it's saying this very loud and clear, is that they have no business creating content. They are not artists, they are not creative, this is not their forte, no shame in that. The shame comes in when you insist on doing it ANYWAY, and then trying to use tricks to compete with the others who legitimately have talent and don't have to ask for ideas because they naturally come up with ideas.

Some people on youtube I cringe just looking at their thumbnails... and some of them I've become that way having liked them in the beginning. Oh and then there's the people who want to share their entire day with you. Those videos are so uncomfortable because you're just so embarrassed for the person making it! I don't care what you had for lunch, I don't care that you mowed your lawn, I don't care that you went to the bank and saw a rainbow and thought about puppies... It's just like, if you think that the mundane everyday goings on of your life are important enough to post to youtube, you have issues of a nature that is beyond my comprehension.

I have to agree about the mundane videos, I cant watch them at all, I watch videos mostly for entertainment or to learn something and theres nothing really in them for me to watch. I have never been keen on Shane Dawsons videos but I must admit I have laughed a few times when I have heard my girlfriend playing them on her computer.

Funny thing about Shane, I was subscribed for a while. I thought he was pretty funny and I like to keep tabs on who's trending. Then I began to notice that every single one of his videos has at least one scene in it that burns itself into my mind and makes me want to throw up every time I think about it. I soon realized that no amount of jokes or information I can gather from watching him was worth having all those disgusting images in my mind... I'm not even talking offensive either, I just mean him eating gross stuff and doing messy things and just... bleck.

But then there's people like Onision
Dude I just watched some of his stuff the last week. Man that video he does where his girlfriend loses her memory is such b******t. I can't watch someone who makes money off that kinda lies. And the Archfiend. I did enjoy his rants but he is the biggest hypocrite on the internet. I love how he got on the AVGN nuts when he got a new camera for his show when here Archfiend started with a peice of s**t camera and he himself upgraded when he started to make money off his videos. The only reason he is popular is because of all the b******t he said about AVGN. And I love how anyone who respectfully disagrees with him gets a message from him saying "Thank$ for watching my video$" and then he just blocks them from his channel. He's a douche for that. I have been watching this guy called undertaker who was found by Archfiend. I like his rants better since he isn't such a hypocrite. But yea YouTube is awesome. I can stay glued on there for hours!
