When should I upload to target a specific event?

Hi guys,

I'm just in the final stages of a video which I hope will be "big" (I always think this, but it never happens :( ) which is to mark a significant anniversary of a popular event for which I know there will be other anniversary-cover of.

Thinking about uploading, my initial thought was to upload on the day, but then I realised this is silly because by the time people find and watch it, it will be past the anniversary.

I'm now thinking I might be best uploading it soon, about a week before the anniversary - ensuring it's running smoothly and letting the views trickle in, before promoting around the date of the anniversary?

Though I watermark my videos, I don't want to upload too early incase some unscrupulous individual stumbles across it and reuploads it to their own channel, minimizing the impact on mine... I know that might be paranoia talking, but it's a concern.

Has anyone else ever found themselves in a similar situation where they don't want to upload too early, but also don't want to miss the boat?

Upload a few days in advance, spread the rumor about having a big upload for a big event, then go nuts the day before and on the day getting peoples attention to watch your video.

A good strategy is to upload something before an event even happens... You are probably wondering how you even do that, but if you think about it it makes sense

I'd also recommend about a week before. I have a video in mind for a certain summer even coming up and I'll be recording it prolly this weekend and then upload end of the month; which is about a week before it'd start.

Well, I went with the week-before advice, and it's worked a treat! A bit of a slow-start, but then a local newspaper picked up the story a couple of days in, and suddenly it's got 48,000 views - and we're not on the actual anniversary yet! So thanks for the advice all, it definitely worked out! :D
