Humorously Movie Maker is not as bad as people make it out to be. In fact it can render HD videos, although you'll be hard-pressed to find out how to do it.

To Be honest, I used Camtasia Studio 8 but with the new update my key got invalidated so im not buying it again :/ its good if you wanna pay a little bit. But windows movie maker is fine

Openshot 2.0 seams promising.
The older versions are online but this new version which is a complete overhaul doesn't seam to be ready yet. I hope it wont be too long until it's ready.

Don't know about free but i cheap upgrade would be Adoble Preimere Elements which is somthing like 66 pounds

Windows Movie Maker is honestly not as bad as people think. It does the job but I'm gonna make the upgrade soon. I don't really know of any other free editing software that doesn't do a similar thing.
