What triggers a copyright claim?

I uploaded a video last year, a compilation of my own clips with a pretty popular song as a backing track. I had no problems with this until this week.

The video became quite popular during the year and just before it reached 250,000 views, it was banned in every country. My question is this: did the video come to YouTube's attention because of the high number of views it was racking up OR because it was reported?

I'm not monetized to make money off my videos, nor do I advertise a product in any way, if it makes a difference. Purely for fun.

Either way, it didn't come to YouTube's attention. The entity that claimed it was one that believes they own the copyright to the content you used. It was most likely because of the popularity. Reporting it won't do anything. The reporting feature is for videos that violate the terms of use, like pornography or other stuff that no one is allowed to post.

If its just the audio problem, you can switch out your original audio and use one of youtubes "safe" tracks without having to re-upload.

Go to the video manager tab in your account.
Click the edit button under the video you want to fix.
Click the sound icon along the top ribbon (near the annotations icon).

Now you can choose a youtube track instead of your original audio.

Obviously if you had any spoken words they will be gone, but if it was just music this should be an ok fix.

"Manually detected" means someone found it and claimed it. So in that case, more successful videos are more likely to be manually detected.

part from that, videos can be automatically detected, too (by Content ID). This usually happens when you first upload the video.

About content ID. Do every youtuber gets it or I need to request it?

Content ID runs through everyone's videos and tries to detect any copyright audio etc automatically. It's not something manually that you apply, it does it by itself even if your video is scheduled or if they are on private.
I think they were asking about being able to be a part of Content ID and put claims on other videos. If that is the case, you have to sign up for it and have to meet the criteria.

I am aware of that but since Tasty liked the post I thought it answered his question. The quote Tasty had with the other person was a bit vague if it was for that reason, clarification is always nice :bounce:
