What to talk about when playing games?

Hi,

I'm starting out playing games and doing commentaries on them. But I have no idea what to talk about when i'm playing. How do youtubers have something to talk about and what can I talk about?

Hope that made sense.

Well, if it's a let's play then actually connecting what you're saying to the gameplay experience is helpful. :P

Just be at ease, if you haven't done it much before it can feel somewhat awkward to speak all the way through a game, when usually, you might be as quiet as a church mouse by yourself.

Many gamers take a very light-hearted approach to their videos, no matter what the game-style. Feel free to speak how you want; nobody is doing this the 'correct' way. We're all different.

It's your channel - if you go off on a weird tangent when you're playing, so be it - you can say whatever you want!

If you are really good at the game you are playing then you can give tips and tricks. Apart from that you can talk about topics that interest you like something in the news or something gaming related.

Thanks for the tips, I guess I just have to do it more and more until it's not awkward anymore :D

If you really want to talk about specific subjects (unrelated to the gaming footage); recording your audio rant, subject opinions, commentary by itself (when not gaming) is a good method. Then, you can just add any game footage you like later on and edit it to fit the audio track. Easy.

There are some ranters who will play games at the same time they're talking about a subject, either by design or they edit as such it looks like they're talking about it while playing.

When I'm doing a 'proper' LP gaming vid, I can get side-tracked randomly but I tend to ramble on within the fantasy of the game I'm playing - you hear me as I would be if you were in the room with me or multiplayer-style - reacting, moaning, excited, deflated - genuine.
