What to do when you don't know what content to make...

Hey YTTalk Members,

As you probably read from the title, I don't know what to do with my channel and I don't know what content to make. Currently, I am in this big slump and it has really demotivated me from making content. I go through moments where I really want to make content and I get motivated... but then it all goes away when I really don't know what content I want to create.

At the moment, I'm making Far Cry 5 videos. Look, I love Far Cry 5 and I want to make so many videos on it, but there are a couple things holding me back:

1) I am doing tutorials, but I'm not very good at teaching people certain things, especially given the fact I don't know how to do certain things myself. Plus, all the tutorials I want to make have been done by really big channels, so what's the point?

2) I have a beefy PC (I'll gladly give specs if you'd like) but unfortunately OBS does not like Far Cry 5. I go from above a solid 60FPS on High to Ultra settings not recording to 20 to 30 frames even on the lowest settings and still it has lag spikes and such. I've messaged OBS on their forums and such but haven't received any suitable fix or response as of yet. :(

And this is why I don't know what content to make. I've gone through periods of making just Minecraft content to Call of Duty content, to mainly Rainbow Six Siege content to just ECO (a survival game) content etc. And before you jump the gun and just say: "record Fortnite", I honestly do not enjoy this game. I did for a period of time, but no longer do.

SO, this is where I'd love your help. I really want a game I'll personally enjoy recording, one I can enjoy recording solidly only this game for however long before I branch out, one that people are searching for and will actually grow my channel compared to how my channel has been doing recently (I'm not at the point of natural, organic growth yet, I don't know how long before that happens) and something that will sustain my channel and give me a foot in the game.

I'd love to hear your suggestions on what games as well as motivational tips to record as well as tips to get out of this slump and back into gear.

Thanks all :)

I had a moment on my channel where I could only record CS:GO which made me feel like I wasn't growing my channel and demotivated me to make videos so I know where you're coming from.

I'd say just explore games, explore things that you enjoy. The important thing is, is that YOU enjoy recording and playing the game if you think that it's either repetitive or you don't enjoy it anymore find some new ones, or if you want to continue playing those games, play different games in between so it's not just constantly Far Cry 5, maybe throw in some Rainbow or any other games you have.

Another thing you could do is go for a different style of entertainment. From Tutorials to maybe funny moments with friends. Find a style that you enjoy! I usually record the highlights of what I found funny or what my friends while playing found funny.

I sometimes wanted to do longer playthroughs but I found out that either A: I have too short of an attention span to focus on the story or B: After editing like I have for years to suddenly go to longer playthroughs wasn't working out.

I took a break when I got demotivated, I took around a 2-month break and it helped alot, because I got to the point where after watching other videos I got motivated again to make videos so taking a break can be a good idea too.

I hope any of this helps, just keep going!

My Friend:
Your answer is simple
Make the kind of videos that you like.
There are 6 billion people in the world, I am sure there are others that share your interests

I know exactly how you feel. It is a painful experience to be limited in any form. But remember, every big YouTuber once started small. If you really want my advice:

1: Stop pushing yourself. Nobody forces you to make YouTube videos. It is a hobby, not a full time job (as a beginning YouTuber). If you really don't see the fun in posting content anymore, feel free to take a break.

2: If you really want to attract a big audience, do exactly what big YouTubers do.
1) Have a clickbait title.
2) Make clickbait thumbnails.
3) Make 10 minute videos.
4) Have a specific niche.
5) Try out new things.

Especially that last one. If you like the Far Cry series but cannot record gameplay, you could make conspiracy theories about the game. People do this with GTA San Andreas all the time and they come up with the most creepy and interesting things. And Far Cry is a long series, you can make endless theories about it.

Tip: If your PC isn't strong enough to handle recording and gameplay at the same time and you cannot afford a gaming PC, buy a console. Nowadays consoles have a built in recording system and a function to upload to YouTube.

Take a break. Don't force it.

Thank you for the feedback friend :)[DOUBLEPOST=1526805857,1526805725][/DOUBLEPOST]

Thank you Paper for the tips, I appreciate the help :)

Just got to sit down, draw out a mind map of all the things you enjoy doing in life. Pick out your favourite interests and make videos around that and you can't go wrong! Doing something you don't like doing is complete madness.

This is a VERY bad starting point dude. You should make videos cause you enjoy making them or else it is up hill. Think about it, even though you love creating content it is so hard at times and how will it be if you are demotivated from the start?? Take a break and get back when you feel motivated:) Best of luck with it
