I assume you go to analytics. That has every percentage known to man xD

Being only a small channel currently, I feel like if I start to monetize it will come across as the only reason I am doing it is to try and make money from YouTube and also may put some people off of watching my videos at all.

I have 32% monetized. I have low monetization in some foreign countries that brings it down, but even from United States views it's only 37% that is monetized.

Some people don't know where to see their monetized views.

You go to your analytics, click on views, then click on the button 'compare metric' and then click on 'monetized playbacks'. That will give you your monetized playbacks alongside your views. You can then divide to figure it out.
