What microphone should I purchase?

Hi,

So its about that time where I need a new headset/microphone, the one I have currently works okay and the quality isn't too bad but its a bit old and sometimes sound only comes out of one speaker so I've decided to get a new one after having this current one for over 2 years now.

I'm not going to spend stupid amounts of money on a headset, nothing like £100+ but something around the £50 mark would be ideal, I need something that is good for playing music, game sounds and recording my voice for when I upload onto YouTube; any other additions are great too!

Without sounding strange, I'm not stupid and can probably find a decent one by my own accord but I don't want to risk buying one that isn't all it cuts out to be. Therefore, I'm looking for some guidance from others, whom perhaps use said headset currently.

Thanks and I look forward to receiving some help with this.

i hear that snow ball are really good so and right now they are like half off so you are saving some money if you are look for a mic under $ 100 that good

YES! Get blue snowball, probably the best quality, low budget microphone you can get. ;)

After having a look I couldn't find them as a headset, just a microphone?

(I should probably have made that clearer, unless people recommend having a headset to listen to game sound/music and a separate microphone to record voice?)

You can buy a Blue Yeti for around 50-60 quid from the US, it's a very good option for that price.
and yes, using a separate headset is recommended.

If you're looking for a headset, get the Skullcandy SLYRs :) They're what I use, and they're quite cheap for the quality - £64. Probably one of the best headsets around at the moment, and they look pretty badass as well.

Good luck!

I currently use a QPAD QH-90.
Mainly because it was free as I won it as a prize at eurogamer however its one of the best headset's I've had, not sure of the price however.

Thanks for the comments so far guys, its looking like I should get a fairly standard headset, nothing fancy and then a good quality microphone to record my voice with and so far the popular suggestions are these 'Blue Yeti/Snowball/Pro' microphones. My only query is, do these stand on the desk or can you get poles for them? If so, if they're on the desk, won't it pick me using my keyboard up a lot?
