What kind of DSLR should I buy?

Hey everyone,

So I will be leaving college soon and I need to make a DSLR choice for the future. Preferably an upgrade from a t3i which I have been using.

Im curious to know which direction I should go in whether it be a t4i or 60D? Is it worth it to try to get something even better? I don't have a lot to spend i'm hoping to keep the price range no more than 1000$

What gets me the most bang for my buck here?

Any help would be much appreciated!

The 60D would be slightly better than the canon t4i. The t4i has some features like continuous autofocus during video, higher ISO, and is touch screen. The 60D will give you slightly better image quality, performs slightly better at high ISO, and faster shutter speed. It really comes down to what you need to camera for. If you don't mind pushing the budget a bit you can try the 70D.

You'll get better results if you focus on investing in a nice lens. I would recommend putting some research into this - as a number of kit lenses (the stock lenses you get with a camera when you purchase it) might not be as great as you are hoping. I found YouTube to be a great resource for example videos showing the quality of lenses. And if you're on a tight budget, consider the very popular 'nifty fifty' lens - a Canon EF 50mm (retails around $100).

Finally, consider buying used gear. There are lots of deals to be had on Craigslist, but it does come with an added risk. It's probably best if you have a friend you can consult with in this case.

I have a 5D which is really good, but at that price point a 60-70D is probably as good as you can hope for. While they're both really good, i'm not certain that they would be that large an upgrade on the cheaper Canon DSLRs as they effectively have the same sized sensor...

@cmcollection what kind of camera do you use? I just checked out your latest haul video and like the quality. I'm looking for a DSLR camera myself and want to know what kind of camera I can use to achieve that same kind of quality. Also, please let me know what other video accessories you use, if any (lens, light, etc.). Thanks in advance!

I use the Canon T5i and the 50mm f/1.8 lens. I use continuous fluorescent lighting in my videos with umbrella lights. Two facing me one lighting the background and one lighting the side of my face.

Thanks a lot! I think that the T5i is on my wishlist for the next piece of equipment! Especially now that I see how it looks in action through your videos. Thanks a lot for the info!
