How do you keep yourself on schedule and consistently post content?
I have goals and then I break down those goals into tasks and sub-tasks. I then carry out those tasks with lots of discipline. It all comes down to "How much do you want it?"
You have to sacrifice short-term pleasure (by not watching TV, surfing internet) in order to achieve long-term success by getting important stuff done. I can recommend a book on time management and beating procrastination. It's called "Eat that frog" by Brian Tracy
Are there certain days that you reserve to writing video scripts, editing, shooting videos, etc.?
I make videos in batches of 5. The first step is to decide the topics of those next 5 videos. So I have a a top-level idea of what the videos will be about.
I then make a schedule to make those 5 videos. It's usually 2 days per video and I'll do all 5 videos in a binge of 10 consecutive days (2 days per video) I put that in a schedule in an excel spreadsheet and I commit to it. Once that schedule is made, those videos take priority over everything else in my life.
I have a generic video production checklist in excel that I use for each video. It's very simple. 1 column has the name of each task in it and the column next to it is called "status". When I finish a task, I put an "x" in status. I work my way down the list until I have an "x" next to each task. Example tasks are:
Copy template files
Write script
Get images
Record video
Edit video
Write title, description and tags in text file
Do thumbnail
Upload video and copy title, description and tags
upload thumbnail
Do cards
do end-screen
etc
When each video is completed, I schedule it and then schedule tweets to promote it. I publish one video per week so after the 10 day binge, I will have the next few weeks of video scheduled in advance and I can take a breather.
How long does it take for you to write a typical video script if you rely on scripts at all?
About 2 or 3 hours.
