what is going on?

there was one channel I stumbled onto that in the intro and end of his video's he would tell you to "pound that like button, pound that subscribe button and share this video" in the most annoying way possible and it made me not want to watch his video's at all. the bad thing was his video topics were interesting to me and I would have continued watching his channel but I couldn't stand his intro/outro it was like fingernails on a chalkboard.
This! I have channels I literally skip the intro from, cause either I don't like the music, the music is way louder than the rest of the audio or the intro is just annoying. Or I break off a video as soon as they start to outro.

Hmmm...I may have to modify my outros after reading this post. I never say "Smash that like button" because coming from a guy in his 50s it sounds a bit odd. I do however ALWAYS say "For more great content don't forget to subscribe to my channel".
I've been trying to think of a better way to end my videos for a while now, hopefully the Christmas break will get my creative juices flowing.

Hmm, 'for more great content' sounds quite generic. You could say something more channel specific, like 'If you like seeing my boats, don't forget to subscribe!', or 'Shipscribe for more boat reviews!'. Or whatever :P Last one is maybe a bit dumb xD

(also, hi! long time no see!)

I think that outro is fine. I generally will say something along those lines as well. I tend to mix up my outtro's a bit to try different things but it will generally include something along the lines of don't forget to like comment subscribe to the channel yadda yadda.

I used to start my outro with thanks for watching yadda yadda yadda, but that cue's the viewer that the video is over and drops retention.

I may try something like "if you enjoyed this video don't forget to hit the thumbs up button leave me a comment down below and consider subscribing to the channel for more yadda yadda. bla bla

for my intro's It's generally just me talking to the camera with whatever the project for the video is in the background and me just saying hey there youtube todays video is going to be about bla bla bla lets get to it. and then generally go right into the video, or maybe show a couple quick clips from the video on some and then start the project, my audience retention is almost always above average on my intro's so Im not going to change that much there.

Actually...I quite like that!

I've signed up a sponsor from your homeland by the way...so I'll be visiting Harlingen once every three months to document the construction of two large yachts there.

In the yachting industry...Holland Rocks!
Hahaha, glad my horrible pun humour could help you!

And that is so awesome! Congrats on getting a sponsor, hope you'll enjoy Harlingen :) Friesland is a beautiful province in itself, so many lakes! My parents have a sailing boat which they sail on the Sneekermeer :)

I wonder whether asking to "hit the subscribe button" is actually worth the saliva. It would be interesting, although very difficult to arrange, to get hard numbers on whether it makes people pull back or actually more inclined to do it.

Not sure, but............. "Don't forget to SMASH that like button!!!"

SMH

Gosh, those things are indeed annoying af. Doesn't make a difference when smashing or hitting still adds 1 to the count.

Outro's kill a videos watch time percentage %. I always try end video unexpectedly nowadays.

Recently I came across some that stole 40% of the video length. The comments meanwhile reflected so much hate.
