what is a "real youtuber"?

I am with uberdanger on this, anyone can be a YouTuber doesnt matter about how many videos they have made or how good they are, if you make videos and upload them you are one. I suppose you will get people who only consider people to be real ones after they have hit a certain milestone or achieved some success on there but personally I dont look at things like that. You either are one or you are not.

Yeah, I always thought it was just a person who makes YouTube videos. Even if it's only one. They have a channel and a video, therefore = YouTuber.

I'm not a YouTuber, unfortunately. Probably won't be until around April/May. :/

Adding the 'r' means that you are actively participating. You can be a content creator or you can be a viewer. However, just watching videos doesn't make one a YouTuber. It's one who comments, rates, shares, etc on a fairly regular basis.

I think it just means you upload your content. Something you've done not sharing other people's content. Something you've created. I don't think it's a numbers thing.

what's the difference between a real youtuber and someone who just makes youtube videos?

Its' the same level of pretentious nonsense that "real artists", "real musicians" and "real" anything else use to justify a superiority complex and put themselves in their own heads, above the masses.

In my mind, you become a real youtuber when you enjoy what you're doing, regardless of what motivates you or how well you're doing it.

I agree with some of the posts here, I think it is about if your channel makes money or not mainly/and/or someone that uploads consistently. Of course technically anyone that posts videos to youtube or uses it is a real youtuber given they are real lol, so its just buzz words.

I've heard lots of people use the words "real youtuber"
but what's the difference between a real youtuber and someone who just makes youtube videos?
is it a numbers thing?
is it a quality thing?
is it an effort thing?
is it just a mindset?

I'm not saying that this is the definition, but I do know that people argue that Justin Bieber, even though he found his fame on youtube, is not a youtuber because he never actually talked to his audience. By that definition, vloggers and lets players are youtubers while short film-makers and other less-interactive creators are excluded. The definition, because of that, isn't a great one, but it does help categorize towards "real youtuber"s.
