What Exactly IS a Partnership?

Weird, noob question I know, but I've been asked if I wanted to partner with some places and Freedom seems interesting, but I'm really confused as to what it is. Like if I'm not on Youtube to make money, then are partnerships for me? Like am I supposed to be... getting them money? Are there any downsides to joining a partnership like Freedom? Again I feel like a total noob, but I... I really don't get it. I watched their video of "What is Freedom?" And I'm still like... "Okay, but what am I doing here?" Is there a catch? What is love? Baby don't hurt me?

Partnerships is a way for you to earn money, yes. If you partner with a network, your videos essentially become theirs. Basically, they have the right to make money off of your videos, and you.

The benefits of being partnered is..well...money. Another benefit,is audience. Part of the deal is that the network partnering you also promotes you,or helps you get bigger.

It is a win,win for both you and them a lot of times. You get money and popularity, they get money and....popularity. Not all partnerships are a contract to the devil xD Yet you do have to watch out who you partner with. While many good networks exist, many bad ones also exist.

I suggest partnering with YouTube directly for now.

A "Partnership" in terms of YouTube is being able to earn money from ads displayed beside and on your videos, it is also additional features offered by YouTube or your network if you partner with a network, I'm going to disagree with @BrendenTurtle with the promotion part... do not expect to be "promoted" by networks, many of whom have thousands if not hundreds of thousands of partners, they simply cannot promote everybody and the chances are so slim that if they were any higher... nobody would pay attention to the promotion.

Since your content is gaming, I'm going to disagree with partnering with YouTube (trust me, we tried), what's going to happen is when you try monetizing videos, you will be stopped from doing so and asked to provide proof of commercial rights EVERY TIME and unless you're only willing to play certain small indie titles who's publishers or devs are contactable and therefore able to get permission... you won't get anywhere, we looked to contact publishers to get permission or purchase licenses.... you'll either won't get any response, get told they don't do it or you simply won't find a contact method... I also tried looking for centralized websites or programs for obtaining gameplay licenses... none exist. It's not the game publishers who don't want you monetizing... it's YouTube who are terrified of getting sued for allowing it.

If you're going to become a partner, your only option is joining an MCN, which one to join is your choice, I am with Curse but unfortunately you don't meet their requirements, I do know networks that are very decent for smaller channels but unfortunately I can't talk about them here in the forums due to the terms of YTTalk against Network Recruiting, you could get in contact with me via YouTube PM if you wanted help with that but you obviously don't have to.

Hope this helped! :yttalk:

Ah, okay, both of these things make sense! I appreciate that, I was really struggling to get an exact understanding. And it does make sense for youtube not to be so great for gaming channels because of well... the copyright thing.
