What do you feel makes good branding?

SubjectSarah

I Love YTtalk
I've been trying to think of a good cohesive look for my channel, so have been wondering about what makes a channel branding 'good' or not quite so good! So I ask...

In your opinion, what is it about a channel's branding that makes you go 'ooh'?! Is it something to do with the way the background/banner is constructed? Or how extensive the whole thing is, or something else? Is there ever anything about someone's channel 'look' that really turns you off?

I'd be really interested to hear your thoughts on the subject?

Thanks in advance for any responses! :)

I think it's just something to do with appealing to the audience you are trying to gain. If you have a background for an example which looks interesting, interesting titles, thumbnails etc. makes people more inclined you check your channel.

I think something that makes good branding is theme, and uniqueness. If you are a gaming channel, you should have branding that represents that (especially the kind of games you play). Let's say you play only COD but all your branding is like halo or mario. I think branding needs to look professional, like it didn't take a few minutes to make. Color scheme needs to complement each other. Not look like another bigger channel, or any other channel that is. And most importantly, it needs to represent your channel.

there's too many different ways it can be done right .. it's easier to say what makes it go wrong.

Lack of Color Knowledge .. know some basic color wheel tips, complimentary color schemes, etc.
Lack of Balance .. design elements are not balanced and just thrown together not following a general flow
Tacky .. Lame use of cheesy fonts, clipart, etc., can quickly turn good ideas into "I know nothing about design"
Lack of Consistency .. branding doesn't continue to flow across all outlets
Technical Quality .. bad isolations, extreme softness, extreme sharpness, pixelation, compression artifacts, etc

I definitely agree with the consistency thing. Like, make sure that you are sending the same messages wherever your branding is.
