Prevention is the best protection by making sure that your Youtube account does not share the same password as any other passwords you have. Include Characters, Capital letters and numbers. Lastly make sure your Google account has a backup email account just in case it gets hacked overseas as Google will force anyone logging in from a international IP to verify the account from the back up email before they can log in.
Thats definitely the best thing you can do, I wasnt aware it was like that with international IPs, I will likely add that myself now. I thought it was local IPs too so it would be a case of constantly verifying
I went to Japan twice and it prompted me to verify my account both times. Since most hacked accounts are logged in from overseas I think that system came about.
Its a good idea and makes it convenient so you aint constantly entering codes. Its not every day someone goes to another country so it should be effective.
I have mine set up on two step verification.
When I log in from an unfamiliar computer (which is almost never), Google texts me with a code I must enter before I am allowed access to my account. You can also have them call with the code if texting isn't an option.
If you want it to remember a computer, like at home, you can have it remember that computer for 30 days, then it will prompt you for the code again.
