What are your ideas on advertising yourself?

I have tried on many different sites to gain more views and subs but none of them seem to work so i want to know what you guys have tried? What works what doesn't so that everyone can benefit from this and advertise themselves better.

From what I can tell, no site can really get you more subs without a ton of hard work.
