Viral Video Warning Signs?

My latest upload has gotten about 14,000 views in the past few hours, and while I have a handful of videos that have done that well OVER TIME... none of them have ever seen the view spike in such a short period of time (especially not the same day of uploading) Does anyone know just how many views a video needs to make it onto the "most popular" feed of YouTube or (and I know I'm being overly optimistic here) what type of signs to look for when wanting to know if a video will go (semi) viral?

As always I remain realistic, but wouldn't mind knowing this type of stuff regardless of the outcome. I've stayed up later than I should have keeping an eye on the analytics. I'm off to get some sleep.

Awesome, I knew it was only a matter of time before your channel gets noticed. :)

Not sure about going viral, but a telltale sign that the YouTube algorithm has noticed your video and is promoting it for you is to check traffic sources and in particular the "suggested videos" source. It's probably coming from there.
 
If your home country is a small one it can be a matter of a few 10s of 1000s to get on the Popular on YouTube - {country} page.
But if it's the UK or US etc it would be in the 100s of 1000s to millions in a day.

But then there's other pages like say Popular on YouTube - {country} - {category} which are easier to get onto.

Using VidIQ's chrome extension called "VidIQ vision" you can see if your video is trending in any of the above :)
 
Hey, I just checked out the video (it was funny hahaha) but the view count for me says 2843...so I'm quite sure what means. Maybe it hasn't caught up yet? Just thought I'd let you know :)

Aww thanks Crown. <3 I've still got a long LONG way to go but this has definitely added a nice bit of fuel to the dream chasing flames. And I've only just now got home from work. Need to try and rejuvenate a bit but I'm looking forward to goving over the analytics later!

I appreciate you taking the time to reply. OK, so it looks like I was probably being a little too optimistic (though I'll take whatever viewer spike I can get!) I'm in the US so I'll need a lot more to be looking at making it into random folks video feed. I'll make a note to check out that VidIQ later. I'm way behind on current technology so it's good to know what I should be looking into.

Thanks! Views are still coming in though it looks like MUCH smaller increments. But I'll take what I can get in this crowded space.

I'm glad you liked it! Yeah the real time analytics reads 24,000 right now (with a VERY slow stream of new viewers coming in every minute or so) Hopefully it's just a matter of YouTube needing to catch up with the numbers. Thanks for the heads up though, I'll keep an eye on it.
 
I comment on a lot of viral videos. As other posters have said it depends on the country.

That being said... Internationlly you need A LOT of views to get to the front page of youtube. I would say around 500.000 to a million in 1-3 days to get there.

If I were you I would post the video on reddit. It's a great video, the joke is great and your delivery is also great. It's also the sort of video that might make it viral there.

Can anyone else post it on reddit? I tried to post it on R/videos! But I could not get it up because I do not have 10 comment karma on my account :7. Let's help a YTTALKER out :)
