Video Size in 1080p

Hey there, Ive been uploading a few videos lately around 10-15 minutes long, usually around 1 gb or 1.5 gb, however the one I am recording now, while in 1080p (Xvid Codec using VirtualDub), is only 400mb, and it's MUCH faster to upload, since recording that one, I have recorded a few more, and they are back up to large file sizes. I recorded all with fraps, and seperate mic volume, then I compress the size (of raw video) with VirtualDub, put it in movie maker, get the volume on top, and then save it as a 1080p WMV for uploading. Anyone know why that happened?

You compress to a smaller file and then you render a big file from movie maker?
what compression etc do you use for export settings and why do you seperate rhe audio?

Umm, sorry not good for computer lingo, but i'll try :)

I put the AVI (direct from fraps) into VirtualDub, then Go to video, compression, and choose the XVID codec i downloaded, then go to File, Save as AVI,

That's the video file done.
Then I take the recording from my email (Due to lack of equipment i record on an iPad and email to my computer, i convert the m4a or something to an MP3 file.

Put the AVI (After VirtualDub) into MovieMaker, and then slap the MP3 over the top. Then I publish it (using Movie maker function).

The only trhing that matters is video quality. Do a video the old way, and again the new way. Play them both side by side and see if the quality has changed.

The short answer to your question is that different file types and codecs result in varying file sizes. Many editing programs like Premiere actually have YouTube settings. There are usually also settings for smoothness between frames, blah blah blah.

You probably have some quality degredation. Whether it is visible to the viewer is another matter entirely.
